Man United forward Antony responds to offer to join Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce
Antony has no intention of leaving Manchester United this month amid reports of a late move to Fenerbahce.
The Brazil international has managed just one minute of playing time across United’s opening three games of the season, sitting behind Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho in the winger pecking order.
Reports on Wednesday claimed Fenerbahce were in talks with United to sign the former Ajax star on a season-long loan deal.
The Turkish giants have just watched arch-rivals Galatasaray bring in Victor Osimhen on loan from Napoli with Jose Mourinho eager for the club to try and match them with a marquee signing of their own before their transfer window closes on 13 September.
Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on those reports, however, claiming Antony is determined to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the team.
Real Betis also approached United with a loan offer on transfer deadline day for both Antony and Christian Eriksen only for Erik ten Hag to block both exits.
Antony joined United in a £85million deal from Ajax in 2022, reunited with ten Hag following their success together at Ajax.
The winger had bright moments in his first season at the club, scoring in his first three games against Arsenal, Everton and Manchester City along with a memorable winner against Barcelona in the Europa League.
While he did score a vital equaliser in the FA Cup quarter-final epic against Liverpool, he endured an otherwise poor 2023-24 season, losing his place in the side and scoring just three goals all season.
United moved on a number of players during the summer transfer window but the winger’s agent was adamant his client would not be one of them. ‘I see reports about potential exit on loan,’ Junior Pedroso said in July.
‘He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club.’
Antony’s countryman and teammate Casemiro has also been the subject of late interest from Turkey with Galatasaray discussing a loan move for the midfielder following his disastrous afternoon against Liverpool on Sunday.
