Man United expected to make improved offer to sign ideal Kobbie Mainoo partner this summer after first bid not accepted
Man United are looking set to make an improved offer to sign Joao Neves from Benfica.
A few days ago, we covered a claim from Portugal which stated that Manchester United had made an offer to sign Joao Neves, worth in the region of around £50m. Benfica instantly rejected that offer for their talented midfielder.
Well, A Bola have provided an update on that saga, with Sport Witness providing the translation.
United are said to be among the clubs pushing to sign Neves this summer, with the Reds expected to make an improved offer to sign the 19-year-old, after their initial bid was turned down.
The Old Trafford club are still pushing for the signing of the mega-talented teen, though they’ll face competition as another unnamed club has also made a bid of around £50m to acquire the man from Portugal
As the situation currently stands, Benfica are still hoping that Neves’ £102m release clause will be met, though that’s double what United originally offered.
With the Portuguese club in a situation where they’ll have to part with a major player in order to balance the books, the Reds could look to use this to their advantage over the coming months.
Neves would be an unreal signing. He’s the perfect complement to Kobbie Mainoo in midfield and that’s a duo that could start games with regularity for the next decade.
Yes, Neves will not come cheaply and it’d take a large chunk of the transfer budget to bring him in, but I genuinely believe he’d be worth every single penny.
Beating out competition may prove tough, particularly if Neves has concrete offers from sides with Champions League football on the table.
