Man United could land one of the most exciting young talents for €50M as possible Raphael Varane replacement
Manchester United’s defensive target Ousmane Diomande could be available for around €50 million this summer.
United have had major problems in their backline all season, with injuries rendering the starting lineup a revolving door of different players.
The Red Devils had to play Casemiro as a centre back and Jonny Evans together numerous times towards the end of the season and this could be considered the clubs sixth and seventh choice centre back options at best.
With the experienced Raphael Varane already announcing that he is leaving at the end of the month, United will need at least one signing to strengthen their defensive line.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been linked to numerous options including Jarrad Branthwaite, Jean-Clair Todibo, Tosin Adarabioyo and Ronald Araujo.
Another option linked to Old Trafford recently has been Sporting Lisbon’s 20-year-old starlet, Diomande.
Portuguese outlet A Bola report that he is “another name in which Sporting places hope for an important financial contribution” as he was crucial in the first part of the season but less so after his AFCON appearances for the Ivory Coast in the winter.
The club’s signing of Zeno Debast has also opened the door to a potential sale.
United have reportedly placed the Ivorian “as a priority to fill Varane’s place at the Red Devils” but face competitions from Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle United.
“What is certain is that, as A BOLA said, the lions set the bar at €50/60 million for the transfer.”
The defender has been described as “one of the most exciting young talents in Europe” and has been praised for his comfort on the ball and his physicality – two features this current United side lack massively with the exception of Lisandro Martinez.
At 20 years old, the player would also fit the bill for what INEOS are looking for in terms of young talents who are ready to take the next step in their career
