Man United are ready to sign 27-year-old Top Premier League striker after finalising Matheus Cunha transfer -Reports

Manchester United have gone from being a European giant to a dull shadow. The season that is ending reflects a lack of direction, clear ideas and collective commitment. With a possible 14th-place finish in the Premier League, with no ticket to any continental competition, the club find themselves in uncharted territory.

The fans are frustrated, and the atmosphere is serious at Old Trafford. There is no room for another failure, and the club’s management know they must act urgently. They want to revamp the attacking line with signings that will restore hope. United have already closed negotiations for Matheus Cunha as per reports, but they want more.

According to L’Équipe, the “Red Devils” have set their sights on Jean-Philippe Mateta after a strong season with Crystal Palace.

The French striker scored 17 goals in all competitions and was a key player in winning the FA Cup. Although his club want to keep him, the approaching end of his contract could change plans.

He has just over a year left on his contract and from January he will be able to talk to different clubs. Palace could sell him to avoid losing him without receiving anything.

The player is also motivated by the possibility of impressing the France manager ahead of the World Cup.

He is 27 years old, physically powerful, has a presence in the box and is coming off the back of a convincing campaign. He is not a media star, but that could be a positive.

The player would arrive hungry, without the burden of an exorbitant price tag or the pressure of replacing a star player. He also knows the league well, and needs no adaptation.

Ruben Amorim’s system needs someone to fight for every ball, to drag markers and free up space, and Mateta offers those qualities. If United combine him with Cunha, they could have a functional duo. Cunha is mobile, Mateta a steady presence.
