After emerging as one of Spain’s most impressive talents at Euro 2024, Nico Williams is currently being pursued by Chelsea and Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

The Spanish winger has performed admirably for his nation in Germany. With a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory over Georgia, he was outstanding.

Spain’s victory was sufficient to guarantee a quarterfinal matchup with Germany, the hosts. Williams has witnessed an increase in demand in his services as a result of his performance during the event.

Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United are a few Premier League teams that have been connected to him. Sport, a Spanish publication, claims that the Blues have even approached via a middleman.

They have however been told that Williams’ preference is Barcelona. Despite that, Chelsea could still make a play for the wideman.

Barcelona might not be able to afford the Athletic Bilbao forward due to their dire financial situation. Chelsea have thus been told to be patient during negotiations.

Williams reportedly has a €55million (£46.5m) release clause written into his contract in Spain, that Chelsea are willing to pay. Enzo Maresca’s side are also open to offering the 21-year-old a signing on fee between €15m (£12.7m) and €20m (£16.9m).

Williams has three years remaining on his contract with Bilbao. He remains focused on the task at hand during the Euros despite growing interest in his services.

Speaking last week, he said: “Everything that comes from outside is good, it means I’m doing my job well. Every kid dreams of being noticed by big clubs.

“I’m focused on doing well at the European Championship and whatever comes after that I’ll find out because these days I’m totally disconnected.”

His current Spain teammate Yamine Lamal has urged him to pursue a move to Barcelona.

He said: “We get along very well, and you can see that on the pitch too, that we are very close, that we are very good friends, and that is the most important thing to have the connection on the pitch. I wish Nico could come to Barca.”

Athletic Bilbao president Jon Uriarte has also offered an update on Williams’ future and is sure that he is not looking for a move. As quoted by TribalFootball, he said: “We have impressive talent in the squad.
