I would love to return to Man united – Huge boost as England star admits ‘it’d be difficult to say no’ to Man United move in 2025 if Ineos are keen

Following a poor start to 2024–25 season for Manchester United, supporters are already daydreaming about the club’s future phases of reconstruction.

We are optimistic that things will get better now that Ineos has put in place a footballing structure above the manager.

The individuals making the decisions are undoubtedly the right ones.

Even with the addition of five players to the first team during the summer, there is still some work to be done on the field in terms of player moves. One goal for 2025 has been talking about moving to Old Trafford.

Angel Gomes asked about potential Old Trafford return
One position which looks likely to receive some attention in 2025 is the central midfield, with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro’s future beyond uncertain.

With this in mind, the free transfer arrival of Angel Gomes should be appealing to Ineos – and would significantly bolster the midfield ranks at the club.

United have been credited with an interest in Gomes ahead of his contract with Lille running out in 2025, but United will have to move fast as Premier League rivals also circle.

Now, speaking with The Times after a second successive England call-up, Gomes has been discussing the chance of returning to his former stomping grounds.

“There’ll always be that sentimental soft spot, so of course it’d be difficult to say no”, the 24-year-old explained.

However, he did cast doubt as he admitted a Premier League return is not guaranteed – with his successful move to Lille meaning he is far from tied to England.

“As amazing as it would be, after finding happiness abroad I know [playing in the Premier League] is not the be-all and end-all.”

The chance to sign a player of Gomes’ quality, who is homegrown and also an academy graduate for free, is a no-brainer.

Of the 251 United academy graduates, Gomes was number 222 and a return to Old Trafford would see his footballing journey go full circle.

However, re-signing Gomes would be far from a sentimental move as he would be an excellent addition to the squad.

Gomes can play across the three midfield lines with ease and would raise the technical floor of the squad immeasurably. A midfield duo of Kobbie Mainoo and Gomes would be straight out of Carrington and also would see the ball more secure than ever in United’s midfield.

This swoop would be a real coup, so hopefully Ineos make Gomes an offer he simply cannot refuse.
