I would love to play for Man United – 28-year old Serie A star waited for Man United as he rejected champions league club this summer -Reports

Ac Milan star Denzel Dumfries who was a top target for Aston Villa this summer was reportedly offered to Manchester United during the just ended transfer window.

Aston Villa made an audacious attempt to get Dumfries from Inter Milan going into the summer transfer season, as reported by Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness). Villa had Champions League football on the table.

The Netherlands international was contacted by Unai Emery’s team, but he declined to approve a transfer to Birmingham.

Interestingly, after Dumfries rejected down Villa, his agency and intermediaries apparently sought to push the aggressive full-back to Old Trafford.

Further, the 28-year-old, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the San Siro, would have joined Erik ten Hag’s side if it were up to him, as his “preference was Manchester United.”

Despite his camp’s efforts and Dumfries’ desire, United opted against offering him an escape route, leading to the Dutchman deciding to stay in Milan, as there were no other convincing opportunities.

The Italian outlet adds the Red Devils had other plans for the position.

United allowed right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka to move to West Ham United and replaced him with Noussair Mazraoui, who joined the club from Bayern Munich alongside Dumfries’ fellow countryman, Matthijs de Ligt.

While Dumfries wanted United, Wan-Bissaka was allegedly more inclined to play abroad amid interest from Inter. Ultimately, both players did not get their wish.

Now, the Inter star is reportedly set to sign a new deal at the Serie A giants, ending all the speculation surrounding his future. His renewal is expected to be announced imminently.

With Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot at his disposal, Erik ten Hag is unlikely to be in the market for a new right-back anytime soon.

According to a report from The MEN, the Mancunian giants’ provisional plan is to bring in “a defender, a midfielder and a winger next summer.”
