Jadon Sancho ‘blames Erik ten Hag’ for career decline and will refuse to return to Manchester United if Dutchman remains
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho will refuse to return to Old Trafford this summer if Erik ten Hag remains as manager, as he ‘blames’ the Dutchman for his recent career decline.
The midfielder joined Dortmund on loan in January for the remainder of the season after falling out with Ten Hag.
Sancho took offence at Ten Hag’s words following a defeat against Arsenal in August, when the midfielder was left out of the squad because of his performances in training.
Sancho accused the Dutchman of using him as a scapegoat and while the post was deleted on social media, he didn’t apologise to Ten Hag.
United backed Ten Hag, who said Sancho must apologise both to him and publicly if he wanted to return to the squad.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS partners have become partial owners of the club since Sancho’s departure and they will analyse the situation this summer.
Ten Hag faces an uncertain future but sacking him could cost the club around £12m, which is a significant fee considering the club’s perilous Financial Fair Play position.
The former Ajax boss could therefore see out the final year of his contract, which runs until 2025.
In that scenario, Sancho would push for a permanent transfer away from the club this summer, according to Bild.
United are eight points off fourth-placed Aston Villa in the Premier League, who occupy the final Champions League spot
