Former Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is believed to be on the radar of Manchester United as his contract at Bayern Munich heads towards its expiry

Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane who is strongly linked to Manchester United, is still in contract talks, according to Max Eberl, sporting director of Bayern Munich.

Sane was mentioned this week as one of the wingers United may consider in January to bolster their forward line.

The German’s current deal is set to end in 2025, and if he does not sign an extension before the beginning of next season, the Reds or other non-German clubs are allowed to discuss a potential free transfer with him.

With Vincent Kompany as Bayern’s new head coach, Sane has fallen down the hierarchy, which has many questioning whether a new contract is feasible. Meanwhile, United may soon try to add a winger to their roster, with Antony.

The Brazilian has been out of favour with Erik ten Hag so far this season and could be approached by the North East club in January. As for Bayern, they appear to have not given up on convincing Sane to re-sign with the club.

Explaining their stance via Goal, Eberl said: “Now it’s important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again. We are in open communication with his agent and as soon as there is a decision, we will announce it.”

Sane underwent groin surgery in the summer and has been looking to regain his fitness since then. But considering how well he performed for Manchester City in the Premier League, there is little wonder that United may consider him to be a good target.
