I will join – 20-goals Sporting CP striker this season Viktor Gyokeres makes surprise Man United transfer decision after Ruben Amorim appointment

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres will not join Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, according to reports.

After the Red Devils activated Erik ten Hag’s €10 million (£8.4 million) release clause to bring him to Old Trafford, the Portuguese manager was announced as his permanent replacement on Friday.

Days after Ten Hag was officially fired, Amorim signed a contract with the club, proving to be the ideal candidate to succeed the Dutchman.

The appointment of a new head coach originally thrilled supporters, but soon after, there was conjecture over whether any of Sporting’s players would leave with Amorim.

One of the most alluring potential additions is Swedish striker Gyokeres, who was firmly on the radar of several elite European teams in the summer, including Arsenal and Chelsea, but it seems that he has already ruled out making a move.

As per reports from Portuguese newspaper Record, Gyokeres “turns his nose up” at the idea of joining United and would much rather a move elsewhere if he is to leave Sporting.

Gyokeres has built a reputation as one of the continent’s most impressive goalscorers after netting 20 goals in just 16 appearances already this season. He found the back of the net 43 times last year while featuring in 50 games for Sporting.

It’s believed that the striker will not follow Amorim, who initially gave him his big break after stealing the 26-year-old away from Coventry City in 2023. When asked to comment on his future previously, Gyokeres admitted that he’s happy with his situation at Sporting.

“I’m here, and I really like being here,” he said. “It’s not something I think about. I’m enjoying it here. It’s difficult to talk about the future, but we will definitely do the same job and continue to give our best. We wish him [Amorim] the best. It’s very good for him.”
