Manchester United can sign a centre-back in the January transfer window based on two conditions according to Fabrizio Romano.
Erik ten Hag is seemingly targeting a new first-choice centre-back as a replacement for Raphael Varane as the Frenchman continues to struggle with injuries.
Lisandro Martinez is also out injured, so Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, with Jonny Evans as third choice, seems to be the only options United have at the moment.
There have been a few names linked with a move to Old Trafford and Fabrizio Romano has detailed what it would take for the Red Devils to make a move in the winter transfer window.
According to a report in Fabrizio Romano’s exclusive daily briefing, the Red Devils can sign a centre-back if two things happen.
Martinez looks set to be out until the turn of the year and Romano claims that United would be more likely to target a centre-back if the Argentine continues to have fitness struggles.
The other condition would be if the Red Devils received a suitable offer for Harry Maguire, despite the Englishman’s renaissance in the first team, or Victor Lindelof.

United’s targets
According to Romano, ahead of January, Jarrad Branthwaite, Antonio Silva and Inacio Martinez are all said to be on Ten Hag’s radar.
However, as mentioned, United will need to sell before they can buy a defender this summer and with the form shown by Maguire, Ten Hag may well need to rethink his strategy of selling the former Leicester City defender.
United do need a defender, one with experience, ball-playing quality and certainly height to address the back four’s lack of height, next summer may well turn out to be a defensive rebuild, which has been badly needed in recent years
