Manchester United fans dropped a clear-cut verdict after Altay Bayindir took his place between the sticks ahead of Andre Onana for the Newcastle match on Sunday.

The 29-year-old Cameroonian committed two major howlers that allowed Lyon to snatch a draw against United in the first-leg tie at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Onana’s form at United has taken a turn for the worse in the 2024-25 campaign, despite appearing to turn over a new leaf at the beginning of the season.

United manager Ruben Amorim made the big call to drop Onana from the Red Devils squad for the trip to St James’ Pa userk to face Newcastle in the Premier League.

Altay Bayindir has played second fiddle to Onana and the 26-year-old Turkish shot-stopper had only made six appearances ahead of the Newcastle encounter.

Manchester United fans on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, insisted that Altay Bayindir’s “audition” ended in complete disaster against Newcastle

“Bayindir’s audition [is] over. Absolutely pathetic performance,” one X user said.

Another United fan added: “Bayindir has failed his audition woefully. Signing a GK in the summer is now a top priority for Ineos.”

“Audition over for Bayindir,” someone else commented

A fourth Red Devils supporter wrote: “Bayindir failed the audition, we’re def getting a GK this window.”

While a fifth tweeted: “Bayindir failing the audition. No [Joshua] Zirkzee. Looks like our Europa [Leauge] race may end on Thursday to cap off a horrific season.”

Somebody else posted: “Bayindir, this is the worst audition ever.”

And an eighth United fan simply claimed: “[That] Bayindir howler possibly just making a way for Onana to start against Lyon this upcoming midweek.”
