Erik ten Hag drops huge Man United transfer hint with praise for Euro 2024 star

Erik ten Hag is thinking about adding Dutch player Xavi Simons on loan to strengthen his Manchester United team.

The manager of United has previously signed two players from the Netherlands, Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt, for a combined £76 million from Bologna and Bayern Munich.

Erik Ten Hag has now hailed 21-year-old Simons of Paris Saint-Germain, who showed promise despite the Netherlands’ elimination by England in the Euro semifinals.

“I enjoyed Xavi Simons in that game (against England),” he said.” “The drive he has, the passion with which he conquers balls and recognises situations are top.

“His enormous drive as well. That is almost un-Dutch. I think you can see that he was trained abroad. He almost has a southern European doggedness in his game.”

After spending the previous season on loan at RB Leipzig, Simons, who returned to PSG in a £5million transfer from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, could be loaned out again by the French giants, provided there’s an obligation to buy. This arrangement could align well with United’s transfer strategy.

During the tournament, Simons remained tight-lipped about his future. On the transfer talk and the future, Simons stated: “I was happy in Paris. Things have happened. Now, I was in Leipzig this year. We’ll see after the Euros.”

The Sun recently reported that United are one of two clubs showing an interest in signing the 21-year-old. Bayern Munich are also keen having already beat the Red Devils to Michael Olise’s signature earlier in the summer
