Manchester United have an ideal way to sweeten the deal for midfield transfer target Sofyan Amrabat.

Manchester United owners the Glazers are reportedly making progress towards the signing of Sofyan Amrabat.

And manager Erik ten Hag has the perfect way to make the Moroccan feel welcome at Old Trafford, with a coveted squad number currently vacant and free to be used as an early morale-booster.

The Dane flew into England on Tuesday to carry out a medical and put the finishing touches on his high-profile switch.

Amrabat is widely expected to be the next point of focus as Ten Hag looks to beef up his midfield options. Fred and Scott McTominay have both been heavily linked to the Old Trafford exit door, which would leave the club light on numbers.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the Glazers are rapidly closing in on a £26m deal for Amrabat. Hauling it over the line would take the Red Devils’ summer spend over the £200m mark.

If United fans are fortunate enough to see Amrabat stood with the famous red shirt, it could have a No 4 printed on the back. The number was vacated this summer when Phil Jones left the club after more than a decade.

It has previously been held by the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Steve Bruce and Ray Wilkins. But most importantly for Amrabat, it is the same number he wears for the Moroccan national team.
