BREAKING: PSG chief drops major Kylian Mbappe hint after £170m Liverpool ‘offer’ as Real Madrid make final transfer decision
Liverpool have already signed Argentinian World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Hungary international Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig this summer
Liverpool fans were stunned on Thursday when rumours of a €200million (£170m) bid for Kylian Mbappe emerged in the Spanish press.
The France international, 24, is one of the best footballers on the planet after winning six Ligue 1 titles and scoring a hat-trick in last year’s World Cup final defeat to Argentina. It’s unlikely any team in the Premier League would say no to such a talent.
Mbappe has just a year left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract and it’s unclear whether he will renew it. The odds of Liverpool submitting such a colossal bid after splashing the cash on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are slim… but not impossible.
PSG’s Mbappe hint
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi wants Mbappe to sign a new contract but will sell him if he refuses to do so. As Mbappe has entered the final year of his deal, the Ligue 1 champions only have two opportunities to sell the superstar – now or in January.
It’s unlikely such a big transfer will take place during the middle of the season, which means it’s now or never for PSG to cash in. And if Mbappe does leave the Parc des Princes, only a handful of clubs will be able to sign him. Liverpool are one of them.
Real Madrid were the favourites for Mbappe’s signature, but they have ruled out a transfer. Manchester United is another option for the 2018 World Cup winner, but that transfer depends on whether their ownership saga will be resolved before September.
When asked about Mbappe’s future, Al-Khelaifi said: “Our position is very clear. If Kylian Mbappe wants to stay – we want him to stay – he needs to sign a new contract. We cannot let the best player in the world right now leave for free. That is impossible.”
