Erik ten Hag is hopeful Sergio Reguilon, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay will return to Man United’s matchday squad for this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace.

The trio missed Tuesday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over the same opponents due to illness after struggling in the aftermath of the weekend’s win over Burnley.

Reguillon failed to report to the club’s Carrington training complex following Saturday’s clash at Turf Moor, with United protocol seeing players who are unwell sent home or told to stay away to prevent a spread of illness through the squad.

The Spaniard is said to have felt ill before the Burnley win, but requested to play and made it through 79 minutes before he was replaced by Raphael Varane as the Red Devils secured their first clean sheet since the opening game of the season.

Meanwhile, Eriksen and McTominay were expected to play some part against Palace after reporting for training on Monday, but both subsequently felt under the weather and missed the match.

Reguilon has made three appearances since joining United on loan from Tottenham on deadline day, amid a major injury crisis at left back.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, along with right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, remain long-term absentees which means Reguilon is expected to have a major role to play this season despite drastically falling down the pecking order at his parent club.

After a solid start to his career in north London upon arriving from Real Madrid in 2020, the 26-year-old hasn’t played for Spurs since the 2021-22 campaign and spent last season on loan with Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo is set to return to action after next month’s international break

Elsewhere, Lisandro Martinez is still expected to be out for this Saturday’s game, while young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is likely to return after October’s international break.

Amad Diallo could join Mainoo in boosting Ten Hag’s options next month, with the former Sunderland loanee sidelined since pre-season after suffering a knee injury.

The return of Varane has boosted United’s options at the back, with Harry Maguire also making his comeback from injury during Tuesday’s victory over Palace.

United are currently ninth in the Premier League after three wins and three defeats, but they are already nine points behind table-toppers Man City
