Man United player ratings vs Wolves with two 4/10s but youngsters impress in Premier league defeat
Manchester United are now four Premier League games without a win after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Old Trafford.
As expected after Thursday’s incredible victory over Lyon, the game lacked any real spark in the opening stages with neither goalkeeper forced to make a meaningful save. The closest either side came to a goal in the first half was Christian Eriksen’s free-kick that was turned away by Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley.
Bruno Fernandes was introduced in the second half as United went in search of a goal but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock as substitute Pablo Sarabia scored a free-kick to seal the win.
Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:
Andre Onana
Could have watched the first half sat in a deckchair. Had a largely uneventful day between the sticks and had no chance for Sarabia’s free kick. 6
Noussair Mazraoui
Available after his sudden half-time dash in midweek. Fouled Matheus Cunha in a dangerous position just outside the area but it came to nought. 6
Victor Lindelof
Captained United and could have got on the end of Patrick Dorgu’s cross. Comfortable against Jorgen Strand Larsen. 6
Tyler Fredricson
Did next to nothing wrong in a serene first half on his maiden career appearance. Sportingly congratulated by Strand Larsen. 7
Patrick Dorgu
Switched to the right-hand side and sent in two inviting inswingers that went out for goal kicks. Booked in the second half before he was substituted. 6
Manuel Ugarte
Put himself about and broke up Wolves’ play a couple of times but occasionally errant with the ball. Came off just before the hour. 6
Christian Eriksen
Hit the target with a free kick that was palmed over. Conceded the free kick that Sarabia scored from. 5
Harry Amass
Another bright senior appearance from the 18-year-old, who played on the front foot and was calm on the ball in his own third. 7
Alejandro Garnacho
Did little of note in the first half but crossed invitingly for Rasmus Hojlund in the second yet the Dane failed to connect. 5
Kobbie Mainoo
Curled wide with half-time looming on his first start in more than two months. An appearance useful only for getting more minutes under his belt. 6
Rasmus Hojlund
Got nowhere in the first half. Brilliant piece of play on the touchline was undermined by his failure to then cross or shoot. Garnacho’s cross eluded him. 4
Subs
Diogo Dalot
Got a run-out after a rare start on the bench. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Energised the team and contributed to a half-chance for Hojlund. 6
Mason Mount
Came on for the sixth game running and missed a good chance. 4
Chido Obi
Had a chance to shoot. 5
Leny Yoro
Introduced with 10 minutes to play. 6
Manager
Made five changes yet still picked a competitive enough team against a similarly-placed side. Proactively introduced three substitutes just before the hour. But United didn’t score again. 5
