Man Utd fans have lot to say about Matthijs de Ligt performance vs Ipswich Town as ‘underrated’ point silences critics
Manchester United fans immediately reacted to Matthijs de Ligt’s performance after the Red Devils clinched a 3-2 win over Ipswich Town on Wednesday evening.
Ruben Amorim’s men conceded inside the opening five minutes after a complete howler from Andre Onana and a reckless back pass from Patrick Dorgu.
Following Jaden Philogene’s easy opener for Ipswich Town, Manchester United fought back and pulled one back after Sam Morsy put the ball in his own net.
Bruno Fernandes whipped in a dangerous free-kick and Sam Morsy indivertibly beat Alex Palmer, with United subsequently taking the lead after the equaliser.
Matthijs de Ligt added his name to the scoresheet for United only four minutes later before Ruben Amorim’s side suffered another major setback before half-time.
Patrick Dorgu was dismissed in the 43rd minute after his reckless challenge and Jaden Philogene secured his brace in the first half of injury time at Old Trafford.
Harry Maguire put United back in the lead two minutes into the second half and the 10-man Red Devils held off Ipswich until the full-time whistle to secure a 3-2 win.
Man Utd fans’ reaction to De Ligt’s display
Matthijs de Ligt started on the right side of the three-man backline, with Leny Yoro out on the left and Harry Maguire stationed as the central defender.
The 25-year-old Dutchman has impressed at times in his debut season at Old Trafford after Manchester United signed him from Bayern Munich last summer.
De Ligt stepped up to the occasion alongside Maguire and Leny Yoro and the trio were solid for Ruben Amorim’s side on Wednesday evening against Ipswich Town.
The United defender has been met with stinging criticism since his arrival at Old Trafford, including from the likes of Red Devils legend Paul Scholes.
However, Red Devils supporters on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, waxed lyrical about De Ligt’s performance in the Premier League win.
One United fan claimed De Ligt was “very underrated” due to him not being a ‘flashy player,’ while another supporter praised him for his “monster performance.”
“Leny, De ligt, Maguire. Class,” one X user wrote.
Another tweeted: “Maguire and De Ligt and Yoro were all decent today, TBH.”
A third added: “Honestly, big shout out to our defenders De Ligt, Maguire and Yoro. All [have] been outstanding today! Being 10-man down for [a] large part of the game and not conceding many big chances is [a] credit to them.”
Someone else commented: “De Ligt is a proper defender. Very underrated signing just because he isn’t a ‘flashy’ player. Thought him, Maguire and Yoro were all brilliant tonight.”
“My man of the match is De Ligt. Up yours, Scholes,” a fifth tweeted.
While a sixth said: “Matthijs De ligt [with a] monster performance.”
“Yoro, Maguire, De Ligt [and] Bruno tonight were all magnificent,” another suggested.
And an eight wrote: “Harry Maguire has been immense tonight. My MOTM. Great performance. De Ligt and Yoro have both been superb as well.”
Amorim reacts to Man Utd win
Speaking after the 3-2 win at Old Trafford, Amorim insisted that the Red Devils “deserved” to walk away with all three Premier League points on Wednesday.
“Today I’m not frustrated,” he told TNT Sports, as per BBC Sport.
“We controlled the game and since the first minute, I felt the players were trying to play and we managed to score two goals.
“The sending off changed the game a bit but the fight the fans showed and the fans helped a lot and we fully deserved the three points.
“There are some moments that are really hard but that’s natural in every profession, you need to suffer.”
